It is with great sadness that Ipswich Eagles CSC learned of the passing of David Hunting yesterday. Dave was an ex-Chairman of the Eagles, and one of the original members who built then restored the track. A lifelong fan of the sport, Dave was a rider, referee, club official and member of the Cycle Speedway Commission. Most recently he ran the “cycle speedway through the ages” web site and worked to re-establish disused tracks such as Spixworth, Grundisburgh and Woodbridge.
Ipswich CSC will look to host an event in Dave’s memory, with proceeds to go to a charity of his family’s choice.
Our thoughts are with Dave’s loved ones at this time.
I was very sad to hear of Dave’s passing. Dave helped me start in cycle speedway at Grundisburgh when I was nine years old. He was instrumental in opening and forming Ipswich Cycle Speedway Club and sponsored both them and myself, helping achieve so much and in such a professional way. The stories from Dave are legendary and funny. I am so glad that I attendied the 40 year reunion last July at Grundisburgh and will both miss Dave and his everlasting love of cycle speedway and some fine adventures.
I’m so sorry to hear the news today of Daves passing. He helped my oldest boy Colby start cycle speedway when he was 7 years old and then later on my youngest Fynley. No body can’t fault Daves love of bringing youngsters into the sport and helping them achieve great things.
Thanks again Dave for all your help and rest in peace.
My uncle David will be missed with all my heart. R.I.P xxx
