Wednesday 20th May saw the first event of 2015 Season to be held at Somersham, the Suffolk Grand Prix Round 2 for Under 11’s, Under 15’s and Seniors. All day throughout the County heavy Rain, Thunder, Lightening and Hail had fallen interspersed with Warm Sunny patches and blustery Winds.
The Track looked great an hour before the start with just a gentle broom round required, although Gagte 1 was quite heavy where water had laid follwoign earlier showers. However, this all changed with 20minutes to go before Signing in as the heavens opened to leave the track very slippery and heavy especially on turns 1, 2 & 3and the back straight.
However, for the nineteen riders that braved the conditions, they rode it very well, with a couple of exceptions by the speed merchant young seniors (Yes Ray Pyke you as well), who found it very tough going resulting in some exciting racing between them as the tight turns from the start gate and sideways turning on the bends became the norm and picking up was made treacherous.
Despite the above though all rode exceptionally well especially the Under 11’s and 15’s who had probably never encountered track conditions such as these in their young racing careers.

Well done to all of those that rode on the night as that last minute rain shower made the track extremely greasy, but you still put on a fantastic show of racing for those present. A big thank you also to Bryan Harvey and Les Fellgett for their work in trying to get the bumps out of the track after the event caused by tyre ruts as well as Jim Knights for his work on the start gates and Sami Harvey for her efforts in the Tuckshop (Probably the warmest and driest place on the night!!)
