Ipswich made the short journey up the A45 to Hethersett for this afternoon’s SE1 fixture in good  spirit despite their recent setback at Sandwell the week before and without Richard Williamson who  was rushed to hospital A& E in the early hours of Saturday morning complaining of stomach pains , meaning that he missed yesterday’s Open club at Sheffield as well as today’s meeting. This allowed the ever green Barry Copping to step in for a rare SE1 ride for his club having been restricted mainly to SE2 racing this season and how did he take his chance recording a fine 20 point haul from reserve and from grid four on each occasion showing he has not lose any of his gating ability and was greeted by all
his team mates at the pit gates after heat eighteen saw him score his maximum. Not to be out done from reserve saw also young Ashley Hill secure a paid 15+3 , overall a great team performance by the Ipswich riders who rode to instructions.

Pick of the Hethersett team was Phil Adams and if he hadn’t been unlucky to have thrown his chain in his first heat would have surely also scored a 20 point max but still went on to notch 16 points ,he was well supported by the ever improving Oli Buxton who scored a creditable 14 points.

Ipswich took control of the match straight from the off and showing no mercy to their opponents claiming five 7-3’s before the break leaving an half-time score 34 – 55 , Hethersett did enjoy some success after the break in heats 12 , 13 and 16 recording two 6-4 and a 6-3 win but it was left for the man of the moment in the last heat and after being called back for a fourth time Barry Copping powered out of grid four like a man on a mission determined not to have his max taken away from him (are you watching Gary Colby ) .

South – East U16’s
Hethersett  69     Ipswich   91.

Hethersett : Scott Grimes 16 , Katie Adams 7 , Axel Johnson 13 , Troy Bunn 5 , Oli Buxton 14 , Richard Wiltshire 8.

Ipswich    : Richard Fellgett 17 , Fraser Harris 12 , Daniel Knights 14 , Ben Harvey 11 , Matt Hill 16 , Lewis Roberts 17, Alex Harvey 4 , Ashley Hill dnr.

South East U16’s champions went into this match seeking their fourteen win in a row at this level, this promise to be a different affair to when these two teams last meet when Hethersett could only field two riders and borrowing some riders from their opponents to make more of a match.

It was good to see some new faces and one old face in Axel Johnson, for the home side Oli Buxton continued from the first match and was well worth his 14 points and well supported from Scott Grimes 16 and Axel Johnson 13 but unfournately couldn’t be supported by their lower end who gave everything they could never dropping their heads. This reflected in the Ipswich scoring with the top six all scoring double figures , top scorers for the away team the ever impressive Richard Fellgett and Lewis Roberts both on 17+2 ,a fine performance also came from young Ben Harvey scoring 11+3 and will learn a lot from this meeting all this was backed up by solids displays from Matt Hill 16, Daniel Knights 14  (Mr. Realiable ) and Fraser Harris 12 points .
