Ipswich and Great Blakenham locked horns for the third time this season in the battle between the two heavy weights in Suffolk , but before the match began both sets of riders and officials respected a minutes silent for the late Robyn Carter who sadly past away on Friday afternoon.
Great Blakenham arrived with a very under strength team and gave a debut to Gary Colby as well as giving youngsters Sam Turland and Sam Broom a run in the team and the evergreen Terry Ashford. The message from the off was not to be complacent and to get at their opponents right from the very first heat. Brooke and Chittock got the home side off to the perfect start with a 7-3 over Peck and Colby ,this was followed by two 5-5’s ,heat four saw Pike / Roberts secure another 7-3, two more shared heats followed before Pike / Chittock produced a 6-4 to take Ipswich ten points up and in command of this fixture. Heat eight was shared then in heat Stant / Rumbold recorded a 7-3 over Pyke / Ashford to give the home team a fourteen point lead at half time .
Ipswich continued after the break in no mood to ease off and slowly racked up the points ,it was only in heat thirteen that Blakenham recorded their first heat win with Peck /Colby’s 6-4 over Stant /Szyzlyk. Heats fourteen to seventeen saw the home team score two 7-3’s 6-4 5-5 , the match was wrapped up with Peck and Lewis Osborne 7-3 in the last heat over Ipswich’s young guns Roberts / Rumbold. One rider who did managed to remain unbeaten was Chris Osborne who scored a 20 point maximum .
