Eagles in Local Press

Ipswich Eagles have made the Local Press via the In-Touch Magazine delivered freely around villages and towns within Suffolk.

“Ipswich Eagles Cycle Speedway Club

2012 was a great year for cycling. We saw Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France, a clutch of Olympic cycling medals and the Tour of Britain starting on the Ipswich Waterfront. The Ipswich Eagles also had a great 2012, hosting the European Cycle Speedway Championships and winning the sport’s most prestigious title, the British Club Championship.

Cycle Speedway is a great way to get all ages cycling. We race three or four laps of a short oval outdoor track on bikes with no gears and no brakes, from March until November. Ipswich races in the Suffolk and South East leagues, and in the British Championships and the national Elite League. It’s great for families too, with plenty of tea and cake for non-riders.

The British Club Championship win shows our commitment to all ages, where we compete in Under 10, 13, 16, 19, Women, Open and Veterans categories.

The Ipswich Eagles are now recruiting for the 2013 season and we would welcome all riders from 4 years to 104 for two free try-it sessions at our track at Whitton Sports Centre. We welcome over 40’s to bolster our Veterans Team so if you were a fan of Cycle Speedway as a youngster then come and give it another try! We have bikes, helmets and gloves to lend.

Our training nights are Monday and Tuesday for Junior and Senior riders. Friday is our Academy night for under 10s and new and less experienced riders.

All details of training, racing, what to wear and who to contact can be found on our website at www.ipswicheagles.co.uk, or call Phil Clarke on 0791 808 1018.

If you don’t fancy riding then come and watch all the action as our Elite Team aims to push up the table in 2013. Sky TV filmed them in 2012 and the thrilling racing is really worth a look. It’s free to watch and you can enjoy refreshments in our seated stands – all the fixture dates are on the website.”
