Junior Eagle Skates to Silver

Earlier this year, Ipswich Eagles Club Secretary, Dave Hill, was contacted by a local father asking if his daughter could come along and train with us as her Roller Speed Skating coach had recommended Cycle Speedway as a way of helping her to improve both her fitness and sprinting skills.

Being a club for all, we happily invited them to come along and a week later Peter Humphreys turned up at the track with his daughter Natasha to one of our Club Night Sessions.  Natasha had recently been invited to be part of the GB Developmental Squad and wanted to go that extra mile in achieving her goals and which we here at Ipswich Eagles were only too happy to help in any way we could.

It would seem that the extra and very different discipline of Cycle Speedway training certainly paid off because at this year’s British Championships, held last month at the Birmingham Wheels Centre, Natasha competed in the Cadet Girls group category (aged 13 -15) and was the youngest in her group.

Natasha raced in the following categories: –

  • 300m time trail
  • 500m
  • 3000m points race
  • 5000m elimination

At times, given the quality of the Skaters present it was very hard going in her races, but thanks to the extra training, Natasha battled through finishing the weekend with 4 silver medals which is fantastic and has maintained her status as the British No 2 in her age group.

A big congratulations from everyone here at Ipswich Eagles CSC and we hope we can help turn those Silvers into Gold for you at next year’s Championship.
