SE1: man-down Whirlwinds win away at Hethersett

Hethersett the current leaders of the division welcomed the reigning league champions in this top of the table clash. The Norfolk based outfit went into this fixture sitting top of the pile and still unbeaten while Ipswich who were third had suffered two defeats in this season’s campaign so far. The home side were at full strength ,while their visitors could only manage five riders in this crucial match which was a must win for the Suffolk side.First heat saw Lewis Roberts out on his own against Hethersett’s Grange and Buxton but he still managed a heat win to give Hethersett a one point lead. Heat two was shared with Brooke and Mower splitting the home pairing, heat three saw the Whirlwinds young duo Bacon and Harvey record a fine 6-4 to put the champions up by one, Hethersett were back in front in heat four with Cossey and Butler securing a 6-3 over Roberts.

Heat five was when Ipswich took control of the match by the scruff of the neck when Brooke and Mower handed out a 7-3.This seemed to kick start the away side’s dominance for the rest of the match and put them firmly in the driving seat ,heat six and a 6-4 to the away side with Bacon and Harvey showing just what young talented riders these two boys are fast becoming and a great understanding they are forming together ,heat seven Roberts proved to good and secured his second race win to limit Hethersett to getting themselves back into the match heats eight and nine saw the away team pile more misery on their hosts with two maximums to round off the first half in great style . HALF TIME 38-49.

Captain Josh Brooke was programmed to ride the second half as the lone rider and wasn’t to let anyone down as he powered his way to three more heat wins ,only dropping two points from his six rides ,and lead the way in the opening heat in the second half. This was followed by three 7-3’s on the bounce with the home team seemily having no answers to the Whirlwinds onslaught. In the the end it was Ipswich who ran out more than comfortable winners in a one sided match which on paper looked as though it should have been closer. This will be a big dent in Hethersett’s confidence and will surely spur the champions to be even more determined to hold on to their title. FULL TIME 76-96 .
