The excitement levels are breaking the gauges, and all eyes are on Fortress Whitton this Monday and Tuesday for the final rounds of the 2015 Eagles Club Championship!
You’ll remember of course riders drop their lowest round from their final total score. The tables on the series page (click here!) are ordered by this rule. So who’s improving, impressing and in the hunt for the medals?
First up the under 7s. Liam has wrapped this up with six wins out of seven. Emil looks favourite for runner up but has to race to prevent Hayden nicking second. The under 10s sees four riders in the hunt with three having perfect attendance records. Keaton is uncatchable in first, Izzy is favourite for the silver over Kai.
Ben has all but sewn up the under 13s, dropping 5 points to Charlie in round 1. He has to race the last round to prevent Charlie catching him though, to complete his collection of 2 sets of GoRide gold, silver and bronze medals. Gemma, Oscar and Kristian are following at regular point intervals and any no-shows for the last round could see themselves leapfrogged for a medal position.
Alex has sewn up the 9 rider under 16s league, after Ben and Pierce generously stepped up to the Senior league. Ethan and Lily are battling for silver, separated by four points – potentially a big ask for Lily, as they’ve only been more than four points apart in one round this season, in Ethan’s favour. Harrison and Chloe were regular A finalists earlier in the season, and Reece marked his return from an MTB injury with a second place. Perhaps the league with the most “what couldve been” stories?
16 Seniors competed, and Rich has made the gold certain with his A final win in round 7. Matt is the first rider to jump a medal place thanks to the “lowest round dropped” rule, as his 100-minus-0 climbs over Ash’s 105-minus-12. Adam could still sneak among the gongs if Ash or Matt don’t make Tuesday’s round.
And so to the big one. The Vets. Ian has not put a foot wrong all season, so races away with the honours. Darren and Mark are only a point apart, so Tuesday’s A final will be a run-off for silver and bronze.
With just the East Anglian Championships in Hethersett and a Suffolk Junior meeting at Ipswich over the weekend, these will the last meetings of the season. Who shall bring home the shineys still up for grabs? Peruse the tables, and we shall see on Monday and Tuesday …
