Ipswich came so close to picking up their first points on the road away to Sandwell , in a match that was nip n tuck all afternoon with the lead changing hands during the contest , the decisive heat came right after the break in heat ten with Ipswich two points down , Brooke was excluded at the tapes for movement and Sandwell took full advantage to record a 7 -2 heat win and move into a seven point lead ,thou the Ipswich team slowly ate into their lead it was a case of heats running out too quickly and went into heat eighteen three points adrift needing a maximum heat advantage , they had to settle for a shared heat leaving Sandwell to celebrate a fine victory. A thank you to Roger Dainty for stepping in to referee after the match official didn’t show.

The combination team took full control of their encounter and barely looked in trouble thru out the match ,winning seven of the thirteen heats , moving into a fourteen point lead by heat seven , Ipswich took a full squad of eight this allowing every rider to have three heats apiece , all the riders scoring well with some excellent team riding , the pick of the riders Mattwew Hill and Will Clark , overall another three points in the bag to nove them up the table .
